On Saturday 27th January the second All Ireland networking conference for local city of sanctuary groups and streams took place in Dublin. Hosted by the Irish School of Ecumenics, Ireland’s first Honorary Place of Sanctuary, the conference was a wonderful success, with representatives from at least fifteen cities, towns and counties up and down the island of Ireland.
Highlights of the day: The inspiring keynote speech by Jonathan Ellis, COSUK Vice Chair and international campaigning teacher. Workshops on practical aspects and streams of sanctuary along plenty of opportunity to network, share ideas and encourage each other all contributed to a wonderful day when we strengthened our ties and commitment.
Dr Avila Kilmurray of Social Change Initiative has written an article reflecting on her observation at the Conference.
The Places of Sanctuary team is working on a more detailed report. Meanwhile you may like to go to Amazon books and order your own copy of Campaigning for Change by Jonathan Ellis – essential reading for everyone who is determined to bring the positive voice of sanctuary to the general public and the decision makers.
