A Library of Sanctuary is a Library that is committed to creating a culture of welcome and inclusion, especially for people in International Protection (refugees and people seeking asylum) and all newcomers to the area.

We currently have recognised Libraries or Library groups of Sanctuary in:

Portlaoise Library

Louth County Libraries (5 libraries)

Westmeath County Libraries (5 libraries)

Wicklow Libraries (13 libraries)

Balbriggan Library

Libraries wishing to be recognised and awarded as Libraries of Sanctuary are asked to read the links below and to start preparing a portfolio of evidence to show how they have created a lasting Culture of Welcome and Inclusion especially for migrants and refugees. The portfolio should show how the principles of LEARN, ACT and SHARE are implemented in their services. Libraries are also encouraged to contact at least one recognised Library of Sanctuary to hear about their experience.
