Communities, organisations and government bodies in Cork gathered together for their first meeting to set up a City of Sanctuary group on Wednesday 14th June, 2017
NASC, Cork Migrant Centre, Garda Siochana, Cork City Council, Cork Life Centre, Cork Area Partnership and asylum seekers and Refugees from Somalia and Sudanese community from around Cork attended this initial meeting.
Father Kevin Mascarenhas from Waterford’s Integration Support Unit, who represented Places of Sanctuary and facilitated this meeting, said:
“I never saw so much enthusiasm in a group like I saw yesterday in Cork.”
A Public Meeting to promote City of Sanctuary Cork is being held on Saturday 8th July 2017 at 11am in Cork City Hall. Anyone from the community or voluntary sector interested in promoting a culture of welcome in Cork is welcomed to come and join in us!
