On Wednesday 18th November, we teamed up with our trusted partners in Irish Refugee Council and Universities of Sanctuary Ireland to host the second Sanctuary in Higher Education conference.
The information session aimed at helping students in International Protection who wish to access university education in 2021-2022. There were experts on hand from CAO, SUSI, Student Support, ETB and representatives from many Universities and Colleges across the country. Veronica Crosbie, Chair of Universities of Sanctuary Ireland, gave a picture of Sanctuary Scholarships availability, Charlotte Byrne from IRC gave a valuable overview with reference to the excellent information booklet, while Samantha Ncube, one of DCU’s Sanctuary Scholars, gave a powerful testimony which gave many fresh hope.
Any asylum seeker or refugee interested in studying at university or college next year 2021-2022 was recommended to attend and the registration of over 250 is indicative of the demand and interest in further and higher education. A full report and recording of the session will be available on the University of Sanctuary website shortly.
